This fall was the first cross country season of Chloe Miller, a junior at Alton High, and her season was going great. She was medaling at her races and had even been interviewed by Rivebender. But something happened that would affect everything, from the way she runs to the way she lives her life.
“So, five meets into my cross country season I was in a head-on car accident. I broke my arm and I wasn’t able to run for like eight weeks,” Miller said.
On the night of Sept. 19, on the corner of State St. and Danforth Ave., Miller was injured during a crash in which a speeding vehicle collided with hers. Unfortunately, for athletes like Chloe, they cannot just shake off incidents like this and act like nothing happened.
Alton High coaches Talbert and Adney both stated that Miller is known to be a hard worker. She is at the track or gym almost every day and even continued with her broken arm.
“For Chloe, I think she’s going to come back to this track season way stronger than last season. I think she’s ready to run again and hopefully break the 4×8 record for the second time,” Monica Klockenkemper, Chloe’s teammate, said.
Chloe lost a lot because of the car accident. She worked diligently to build up to where she was and was setback by a broken bone. But, she didn’t let that slow her down.
“I just want to make my times drop,” Miller said.
“I think Chloe’s going to break the 800 record for the school,” Aliyah Rehling, another one of Miller’s teammates said.
By the end of the season, she was back to getting stronger and faster at track practices. It doesn’t matter what is in her way, Chloe Miller is determined to reach her goals, and that sends a message to everyone not to let anything stop you.
