Ever since the beloved show came out in 2000, “Gilmore Girls” has been watched by people of
all ages and genders. With the show being among the top 10 most watched TV shows on
Netflix, it is still significant in today’s culture. “Gilmore Girls” has always been a show I can come
back to and always enjoy. The show follows Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, a mom and daughter –
with a 16 year age gap – as they go through the ups and downs of life. The small town setting
and character development are what makes the show such a comfort to watch.
One of my favorite parts of the show is how each character in the show has their own plot, and
we get to discover how the character develops throughout the 7 seasons of the hit series. For
example, one of the largest character developments would focus on Rory’s best friend, Lane. In
the beginning, Lane is shown as a sheltered teen girl hiding her true passion for music and
becoming a rockstar. By the end of the show, she is a married mother of twin boys, balancing
her home and music life. It’s great to see how those around her play a part in her life and
development.
“Gilmore Girls” is centered around a made-up town in Connecticut, called Stars Hollow. This
small town contains the majority of the main characters in the show. I think that these people
really bring the show together, and it makes it so much more fun to watch the town interact with
each other. The small town creates the sense of community and is what I think makes viewers
come back to watch. One of my favorite characters is Kirk; although he isn’t necessarily a “main
character”, he brings lots of humor and laughter to the show.
With the many things I enjoy about the show, there are also some dislikes. As the show is 7
seasons long, there are many conflicts throughout. With the many relationship troubles and
troubles with Lorelai’s parents, viewers will sense some of the same problems come up. The
conflicts can start to feel a little repetitive, but overall, Gilmore Girls will always be a show to
come back and watch.
