The opening night for the two act play entitled “Annie” kicked off on Thursday the 25th at Alton High School to a sold out crowd. The play follows an orphaned girl who is on a mission to find her parents, who left her at the orphanage years before. The actors took to the stage with an excellent cast and a thunderous pit orchestra which encapsulated the beauty of musicals perfectly.
Ann Davis, the Musical Theater Director and Mr. Davault, the Tech Director, both were present and helped the performers and tech do the best they could, even with some hiccups.
“We did great other than the technical difficulties, but the quick fix by tech helped us tremendously,” Mr. Davault, who recently gained the honor of CTE Teacher of the Year, said.
“There were a lot of technical difficulties [on opening day] especially with one of the cords,” Connor Brown, the Student Tech Director said.
On the other hand, Kenlea Jamison, the actor for Annie in the play, had a more positive view on the running of the show. Opening night for the Annie play may have had its difficulties, but the positives outweigh the negatives.
“It went really well, it was a really great start,” Jamison said. “I’m glad that we had parent and middle school performances to help us shake the nerves away.”
“Opening night was probably the best night for us,” cast member Mackenzie Ingram said. “The ensemble added a lot to the show.”
The play itself was great. The actors all did their best, and the comedic cast brought humor that made the entire audience laugh. The sympathetic story of Annie and her journey to find her parents is a heartwarming tale, and the songs were memorable and done great.
After the opening night, the cast would go on to have a play Friday night, matinee Saturday afternoon, and final curtain draws Saturday night.
