The english language can be interpreted in many different ways. One of these ways are slang. Slang is a type of speech that is used to shorten words or words that are tied to a certain culture.

Slang used in Different Cultures
Throughout language, there have been many different ways to say things. One of the most popular ways is an informal way known as slang. Slang, back in the 1920’s, wasn’t used as commonly as it’s used today. New words/phrases are constantly made everyday, such as tea, LOL, LMAO, beef. Researchers believe that the internet and social media are one of the reasons that these new words and phrases are constantly appearing.

Functions and Types of Slang
There are many different types of slang and uses for different words. Many people use slang to communicate with each other informally. Others use slang to identify with others around them easily. Slang words make talking easier if the other person understands what you are saying. Slang can also make communication harder because some words have a double meaning.

The Difference between Slang and Dialect
Slang is a type of speech that is used to shorten words or words that are tied to a certain culture.
Dialect is a particular form of a language which is peculiar to a specific region or social group. Dialect usually indicates that the speaker belongs to a specific geographical location while slang can reflect an individual’s status in a certain social group. Dialect is distinguished by vocab, pronunciation, and grammer, while slang is distinguished only by vocab. Both slang and dialect are similar in the way that they are used for conversation but are different in many aspects.
