Transitioning from Middle School to High School will certainly be one of the hardest things you will do in your early life.
For some students it takes longer to get adjusted to the new school with all the more classes and the increase of work you may get in such a short amount of time.
Along with the increase of expectation from family they put on you because you now are in high school and only 4 years till you are an adult.
This may cause some students to fall behind in their classes and lead them to having to take finals. The purpose of this story is to help you with whatever you may need to capitalize on your finals so that you do not need to retake the class.
Hopefully at the end of this you will know how to study and prepare for your first final as a high school student.
First step- Find out what is going to be on the test
The first thing you should do if you have to take your finals is asking your teacher what you will have on what units that will be covered in the final.
Then ask how many questions will there be and what kind of questions will there be (multiple choice, short answer, and essays)
Ask if you need to know certain formulas or vocabulary to help you with questions you can also help by looking at previous tests.
One thing that most freshman do is totally just don’t care about the finals without relaxing this is a huge turning point failing might mean you have to get a better grade in the second semester or even retaking the whole class all over again because you didn’t think to try on your final .
Second step- Study with friends and family
The second way you could help prepare yourself is to study with your friends and your family to help you understand what you will have on your upcoming test. Asking a friend that could be higher grade than you for advice on how they have prepared over the years for the final.
You should get together with friends in your grade and have a study session on what classes you have to take to get others insight about how they see something.
Even an older sibling to help that may have only graduated a few years ago.
Third step- The last few days leading up to your finals
In the last three days till your finals start spending two to three hours on all the finals you have to take. If you have to take all six you should spend on average 30 minutes per class but you can change this around per subject. Use this time for focused review, go over key notes, look at old quizzes, and revisit any topics you struggled with earlier in the semester.
Keeping your study sessions organized and balanced will help you walk into finals week feeling prepared rather than overwhelmed.
Sunday, spend three to four hours going over as much past homework and tests you went over in previous weeks.
Monday, the final day, spend the whole day after school studying for your first two finals then After school Tuesday do the same for 3rd and 4th hour classes and then do the same for the final day.
